This book has been one of the most important resources in the research of Frederick Delius, and subsequently inspired many works - including Ken Russell's BBC film Song of Summer () and a song by Kate Bush, entitled 'Delius'. This Japanese translation by Midori Komachi became the first ever biographical publication on Delius in Japan.   "Russell focused on him when he was very ill and blind, based on the experiences described in Eric Fenby's book, Delius As I Knew Him, .

FREDERICK DELIUS, in a life spent aloof from the world of professional music-making, accomplished a creative work of singular quality and poetic character. He was born in Bradford, England (Jan. 29, ) of purely German stock and lived the greater part of his life in France; and he was in the main a self-taught composer. Eric Fenby, a composer and also Delius's amenuensis in the last seven years of his life, recounts in his remarkable book Delius As I Knew Him that the re-interrment was accompanied by an Anglican burial service. That Delius should have been memorialized with a Christian burial service is quite an oddity, given the composer's rather outspoken.

This recital will launch Midori Komachi's first publication, a long-awaited Japanese translation of Delius as I knew him () by Eric Fenby.. One of the most affecting true story in the history of music, Fenby's memoir expresses in extensive detail of his collaboration with the English composer Frederick Delius ( ). Delius suffered in pain, as he became paralyzed and .   Mr. Fenby, who vividly described his years with Delius in his autobiography, ''Delius as I Knew Him,'' turned up the other day in St. Louis where the enterprising young Opera Theater of St. Louis.
